Building Strong Links with Suppliers

In our last blog we spoke briefly about Gilly’s (amazing dressing), Shaken Oak (great dressings and mustards/sauces) and Bradmoor Farm free range eggs (yellow and scrumptious).

This time we’d like to shine a spotlight on three other suppliers, who have provided great support so far and delivered their magnificent products for consumption in the Cafe and/or sale in the Farm Shop.

Chiltern Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil. We’ve spent our lives running through those yellow fields in Spring, smelling the pungent rapeseed plant and wondering where on earth it all ended up when chopped down and processed. Now, since opening the Cafe and Farm Shop we’ve found where it goes (well, some of it at least)! We bring you ‘Chiltern Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Rapeseed Oil’. Grown, pressed and bottled by the Mead family at Wilstone Great Farm, in the Chiltern Hills, where they have been farming since 1860. It has a delicious light nutty flavour and is rich in omega 3, 6 and 9. Chiltern Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil has no artificial flavourings or preservatives and is naturally high in vitamin E. This versatile oil is ideal for dressings and marinades and with its high burn points it is great for roasting and stir-fries.

Cornfield Bakery. Lovely, fresh breads made by local people (Oxfordshire). Not the chewing gum type bread you get from supermarkets – this is the real deal. A family run, independent craft baker making a huge range of bread and cakes. An emphasis on traditional craft-made breads, including a range of sourdoughs; speciality flavoured and seeded breads, alongside more regular tin breads. Since the business was first established in 1972 they have steadily grown to the point where they are proud to be one of Oxfordshire’s leading bread and cake suppliers. And we’re proud to stock their products!

Chiltern Natural Foods. We love Granola and we love our good, fresh breakfast cereals. When we came across Chiltern Natural Foods and sampled their breakfast products we were really excited. Again, not something you can buy from a supermarket shelf and a range of products that we’re pleased to introduce to the local community. These guys started making breakfast cereal when they were unable to find a really healthy whole grain cereal. So their wheat free, sugar free and salt free granola cereal was invented. It is also additive and preservative free. Thankfully, they make it taste fabulous by adding Yucatan honey or Organic maple syrup to sweeten it slightly. Then they add pure Madagascar vanilla essence (we sell this in the Farm Shop too) to some flavours, and cinnamon to others, or even orange juice powder. Lastly, they have added unsweetened fruits, nuts and even dark chocolate to make it taste even better. We have a good range of flavours for you to choose from. All you have to do is spoon Greek yoghurt over it, or splash milk on it (try some vanilla soy milk). Then, if you feel like it, add some sliced banana (great on the Maple Pecan) or some fresh berries for the perfect start to your day.

So, if you’re looking for a nice, warm welcoming Cafe in the Wendover or Princes Risborough area, with a Farm Shop alongside selling great quality produce from a network of local suppliers then look no further – The Potting Shed is the place for you!
